Lights! Camera! Action! Giving Back comes in all forms!

Int. Office-Day

GAIL and JOSEPH are sitting across from each other in the accounting office of the television show that they work on together.

GAIL

You went to film school too Joseph? Are working on anything right now?

JOSEPH

I’m working on a short that I recently wrote. And running an IndieGogo campaign to raise money.

GAIL

I remember that feeling. I’ve helped run a campaign and I’ve worked on a handful of films. How can I help?

FADE TO BLACK

I met Joseph three weeks ago and this is pretty much how the conversation went. It was as simple as that. In that moment, I knew that I was inspired by Joseph’s drive and passion and reminded of what it takes to pull together a film.

I was also reminded that Giving Back has soooooo many forms. We often think that it means only volunteering with an organization or donating to a non profit. I’m here to remind you that there are a myriad of ways to Give Back. Supporting someone's dreams is one of them.

Not only was I inspired to donate $10 to his film (Giving Back doesn’t have to break the bank) but it also put me into help mode. I immediately started to think about all of the ways that I could be of service to Joseph and his production. I started doing a bit of online research and remembered the things that worked for me when I was filming. The beauty of Giving Back is that once you shift the energy from “me” to “us”, you open up the gates of possibilities as you search for more and more ways to be of service.

In addition to donating, I had the opportunity to be an extra in the film as well because Joseph was short handed. Once again reminding me of just how easy it is to help someone who needs it.

So the next time you think "I’m not sure how to Give Back" or feel like the ways that are usually presented to you just don’t feel right, take a break and think outside the box. Your next Giving Back opportunity could come from anywhere. Just remain open and follow your heart. You never know where it might lead you.

Gentle Reminder:

My newest segment on the Instagram page is called “Why I Give Back Wednesdays”. Each week, a new person will be highlighted as they tell us why they Give Back. I need your help to move it forward. If you’d like to share why you Give Back, please send a video 60 seconds or less to gail.anderson@givingbackwithgail.com.
