5 Ways to Give Back as the Summer Comes to an End

August 14, 2018

I can’t believe that summer is already coming to a close. It feels like this year has flown by. Luckily there are ways to Give Back no matter the season. The transition from summer to fall is the perfect time to take stock of things you no longer need to prepare yourself for fall/winter Giving Back opportunities. Here are 5 ways to start:

1. Gather clothes that your kids can no longer wear right before you go school shopping and donate them to a local shelter that focuses on kids and teens. If you don’t have children, you can donate your clothes to a local women’s/men’s shelter.

2. Start an Amazon Wish list for incoming students who may need a little help: foster children/underprivileged children. You can also coordinate one to support teachers in their classrooms.

3. Help spruce up your local park. As the weather changes all of the blooming that happens during the spring and summer need to be tended to. https://www.volunteer.gov/

4. Give Blood. Blood shortages happen during the summer as people tend to go away and vacation and donate less. The issue has gotten so bad that The Red Cross has declared an Emergency Need. They are offering all blood donors $5 Amazon.com Gift Card*  as incentive. (Sent via email through August 30th) https://www.redcross.org/

5. Donate Summer reads to your local Little Free Library. There’s been a wonderful resurgence of Little Free Libraries. All you have to do is find one in your local area and leave your books for someone else to enjoy. You can also start your own. https://littlefreelibrary.org/start/
